Naxals hold 'Jan Adalat' in Bihar

source

Just 145 kms from Bihar's capital Patna, armed naxals from the People's War Group are regularly holding a people's court to dispense justice. TIMES NOW travelled to Bihar and found about fifty armed naxals from the People's War Group, holding a Jan Adalat (people's court) in Banke Bazar of Gaya district. The naxals held this court to convey to the villagers about their fight against the atrocities of the police and the rich capitalists. More shockingly, the Jan Adalat was being held in the presence of the heads of five village panchayats, who hailed the 'effort' for the naxals, raising pro-naxal slogans 'lal salam, lal salam'. Around 2000 villagers participated in the Jan Adalad. Visibly pleased by the 'justice' dispensed by the naxals, the villagers say that the naxals are a big help to them as the state government is crushing their rights. ''The capitalist and feudal landlords have suppressed us. And now these naxals have shown us the way to progress and development." said Sukhdev Prasad, a villager from Banke Bazar. Another villager from Warheta, Ramanuj Rai said, "We don't get our right that is why we have come here. These naxals are showing us the way to fight for our rights. The Maoist and naxals have found the way to redress our problems. The government hasn't helped us much as the Maoists. If the Maoists weren't here we wouldn't be respected by the rich and the capitalists" The naxals, on there part, have taken their fight for justice to a new level. They are telling the villagers that that 90 % of the poor people were the victims of the police atrocities. A naxal leader said the gathering, "More than 90% of people face police attrocities. They frame false charges against people - accusing them of being terrorists and criminals. The common man keeps fighting for their rights, while the capitalist and the rich keep suppressing us. But no matter how much we will continue our fight." The naxals also called for a boycott of the Lok Sabha polls and even paid tribute to around 14,000 naxals who were killed in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttaranchal, Nepal and Bihar. Ironically, the police are not even aware of this Jan Adalat that was held in broad daylight. Twenty-two out of Bihar's 38 districts are facing the naxal menace. Despite the spate of brutal Naxal attacks in recent time, no one seems to have learnt the lesson yet - neither the cops nor the authorities. By Prakash Singh, Patna

A big debate within the Greek Left

After the revolt of December in Greece, a big debate develops within the Greek Left concerning the attitude of the communists in front of the bourgeois governments. This heated discussion is part of a greater debate about the tasks, the strategy and the tactics of the left and communist forces in Greece. The polemical character of the debate is owed to the fact that, during December 2008, the split within the Greek Left became more wide: One part (KOE, the Radical Left Coalition/SYRIZA and the extra-parliamentari an left groups) supported the Revolt. Another part (mostly the Communist Party of Greece/KKE, as well as the right-wingers of the former “euro-communist” current) condemned the movement and labeled it as “violent acts of masked rioters of suspicious origin and of reactionary character”. Thus, indirectly but objectively, aligned themselves with the bourgeois-governmen tal block of “law and order”. Since January 2009 the debate became very acute, as the KKE leadership attacked repeatedly KOE and SYRIZA with statements and publications in its Press, slandering us as “supporters of the social-democratic PASOK” because of our slogan “Down with this government of murderers!”.

Despite the fact that this debate is unavoidably marked by the ongoing “civil war” within the Greek Left, we consider that it is of interest outside the boundaries of Greece as well. In reality, the issue is whether those claiming to be communists will use as an excuse the “ultimate goal” (the seizing of power by the working class) in order to limit their “action” in exercises of revolutionary verbalism – while at the same time they let the bourgeois governments undisturbed and present themselves as “responsible” force. We are of the opinion that the reasoning used by the leaders of KKE (“we do not fight for the fall of the right-wing government because if it falls it will be replaced by the equally bad social-democratic PASOK”) is in reality attempting to hide their alignment with the camp of “law and order”, their fear of a mass movement that they do not control, and their refusal to struggle for the building of a popular front that will victoriously oppose the bourgeoisie and its political parties, the right-wing Nea Dimokratia and the social-democratic PASOK.

The leaders of KKE are feeling much safer as long as they remain self-isolated in their virtual world, receiving the congratulations and the grateful recognition by the government, the bourgeois Media and even the extreme right-wing party LAOS for their “responsible attitude” . Today they spend all their energy in the “left civil war”, attacking viciously the Radical Left, sparing the government and even justifying the murderous attacks against the revolted youth. Their actual tactics comes in high contrast with their distant and recent past, for which they have not proceeded to the slightest self-criticism: (a) in the ’70s and early ’80s they were the staunchest allies of the “socialist” PASOK, accusing the revolutionaries who struggled against social-democracy as “covert agents of the right-wing and of the secret services”; (b) in the late ’80s they participated in the government formed by the right-wing party Nea Dimokratia, and immediately after in a “national unity government” together with both Nea Dimokratia and PASOK; (c) in the late ’90s they were calling for the resignation of PASOK’s government – and this was correct, but then also the “realistic” alternative would be the other bourgeois party, the right-wing Nea Dimokratia…

The leaders of KKE pretend today that they do not understand the dynamics that could be created by a united and radical popular movement, able to overthrow a reactionary government. They pretend to ignore the very realistic scenario (if the Left would act as a combative front and thus gain even bigger popular support) of the bourgeoisie been obliged to form a “big coalition” government by both Nea Dimokratia and PASOK – and the possibilities that such a development would create for the communists and the popular movement. Instead, they continue the revolutionary verbalism while at the same time they put their forces in the service of the government (as they did in December, when, among other… heroic feats, they attempted to block the entrance of the universities in order to prevent the students to hold general assemblies and to continue the occupations…).

And the icing on the cake – just to confirm that sometimes even the formalities are very revealing: No organization of the Radical Left was invited in the opening ceremony of KKE’s 18th Congress. At the same time there were present and addressed the Congress two top-level delegations from the parties of Nea Dimokratia and of PASOK, as well as the (right-wing) president of the Greek Parliament. Apparently, the Radical Left deserves to be treated as main enemy, and not the bourgeois parties… The presence of the top-level bourgeois delegations and the… curfew on the Radical Left is indeed another marvelous result of the appeal to “wage war against the opinions supporting ‘the unity or the common action of the Left’, put forward by several intellectuals who, consciously or not, are selling the causes of the ‘progressive’ bourgeoisie and of opportunism” [KKE's daily organ “Rizospastis”, 18/1/2009]…

As the global capitalist crisis develops and deepens, the big bourgeoisie attempts to “answer” it by transferring its burden on the already extremely exploited, barbarously oppressed and increasingly impoverished popular masses. However, the peoples of the world are developing and radicalizing their resistance, as shown by the mass protests in Italy or France, for example, and by the revolts that break out from Greece to the Baltic countries and from Iceland to the French colonies in the Caribbean. Our peoples desperately need a Communist Left willing and able to orientate, lead and develop the new and increasingly radical revolts and resistances that are urgently necessary. Our peoples desperately need a Communist Left willing and able to organize victorious struggles, which will bring us more near to the overthrow of the imperialist- capitalist system. What they do not need, is a force that claims to be communist but does not believe in the possibility of popular victories, and instead prefers to patiently and “responsibly” wait for the Second Advent (which will bring socialism also in Greece, all the more without “riots” and “without breaking even one glass”, as Mrs Aleka Papariga, Secretary General of KKE, recently declared in the Greek Parliament – only to be enthusiastically applauded by the government supporters…).

Soldier, dancer, doc: Many roles of women Naxals

source

SOUTH BASTAR: Eighteen-year-old Radha looks too young to be called a comrade. But there’s no mistaking the gun she swings over her shoulder.

Radha’s desire to be a part of the ongoing festivities in Dandakarnya forest’s Bhumkal divas is almost infectious. But it is a measure of her guerrilla discipline that she skips the festivities until her sentry duty is over. For all her teenager-enthusiasm, Radha carries the significant mantle of being a third-generation Naxal fighter.

Her grandfather joined the rebels and his two sons followed suit. Radha, her older brother and a sister are gun-toting comrades, familiar with the terrain, comfortable with their way of life. There are several young girl comrades in this group. On the one hand innocent, on the other trained to shoot and debilitate, these girls are a strange mix of girly behaviour and warrior grit. Comrade Soni, 18, transforms from soldier in olive fatigues to a dancer in a red-and-white sari, her gun resting on the ground as she takes to the stage, with the intensity of a focused soldier. Not everyone is in fatigues here, although all the women are trained fighters. Comrade Sanjini for one doesn’t wear the olive uniform and could pass off as any other tribal woman if it weren’t for the black plastic holster she casually slings over her right shoulder. Sanjini heads the chetna natya manch. As head, she reworks traditional Gondi songs to include Red lyrics.

To each his peace, and these women find peace in their fight against the State. No matter the risk to their lives or the sacrifices they make, these women are almost fierce in asserting that this is the chosen way of life. Comrades Sanjeev, Sonai and Ranita were injured in an encounter. Comrade Janila’s was the first stop they made. Fluent in Gondi and barely able to speak Hindi, Janila is the resident doctor-nurse. As part of the Doctor Squad, she tends to the injured trio, dresses their wounds and gives them ‘‘ampicillin injections’’. She rejects a safer life. ‘‘I would never have been happy raising children and tending to the fields.

I have greater control over my life here. Working for the party, for the people is the life I enjoy,’’ she states. For the only married woman we met, Comrade Roopi is a picture in contrast. Tall and lean, the bespectacled Roopi is from Andhra Pradesh and her Naxal husband is with another cadre. She does not want to talk about the life she has left behind. ‘‘It’s been six years since I saw my mother. I do miss her,’’ she says but is quick to add that it would be the same if she were working in some other city.

Her role as educator involves daily classes with the tribal locals, where she teaches Maoist philosophy. She tells them, she says, of how imperialist forces have oppressed them, looted their forests and destroyed their way of life. The present day government is equally oppressive, she adds.

Women on the front line, leading Revolution in India

20th February 2009

NAGPUR: A recent survey has shown 74 women to be part of the approximately 290 core Maoists operating in the worst affected areas of the
state. They don't just make up the ranks. The women also account for three divisional committee members, nine commanders, three area commanders, and two deputy commanders. In fact, statistics show that the men are outnumbered by the fairer sex in commanders and deputy commanders' cadre. Two women divisional committee members (Narmada and Tarakka alias Vimla Sidam) operate in the south Gadchiroli area while one (Sujanakka) in the north. "Narmada though has lost her physical aggression due to age but she is still a sound strategic planner owing to her years in the movement and knowledge of the topography," .
Some 57 others are form the support strength. Role of women had become a matter of speculation in the state's deadliest Maoist attack in the 01/02 attack at Markegaon that claimed lives of 15 policemen. Among recent Maoist attacks, there is speculation that Jyoti, commander of Tippagarh Dalam and wife of member of Dandakaranya special zonal committee Diwakar, was part of the team that wiped out 15 policemen in Markegaon recently. Women commanders are also leading dalams like Perimilli (Vijayakka), Chatgaon (Ranita), Kasansur (Dhani) and Surjagarh (Ranjita alias Ramko Rushi Hichhami), Korchi (Sujata alias Kanta Tekandi), Darekasa (Alida) and Malanjkhand (Saguna alias Jamuna). Two more women (Girija and Batte) are known to be controlling two company dalams as sectional commanders. One of the posts of deputy sectional commanders is known to be occupied by a woman cadre (Watti). "These women sometimes have to control both dalams and platoons together. Couple of them like Dhani also doubles up as area committee member (ACM)," said a source. Among others, Aruna controls Platoon dalam (No1) as sectional commander while Rajita alias Sukri Madavi Bheladi, another ACM, is in-charge of Kurkheda-Khobramend a dalam. Ramko alias Narote, who is also an ACM, is the commander of Bhamragarh-Gatta dalam. Though there are couple of sharp cadres among the women who have climbed their way up through sheer struggle, most of them have simply graduated to higher post.

Drop move to acquire land for airport: KPRS

BELLARY: The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) has condemned the police action on the farmers of Chaganur and Siriwar villages for opposing the acquisition of their land for a new airport and urged the Yeddyurappa Government to order a judicial inquiry into Sunday’s incident. The Government should drop the move to acquire land for the airport immediately, it said.Speaking to presspersons before leaving for Chaganur on Monday, KPRS president Maruti Manpade said that the incident has once again proved that the BJP Government was anti-farmer.Stating that he was at a loss to understand why Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development, was keen on acquiring land for the airport. Stating that the Ministers from Bellary had not said anything about upgrading the existing airport, Mr. Manpade suspected Mr. Reddy’s stand in the matter.Criticising Mr. Reddy for calling farmers as “goondas” and also for spreading false information that farmers themselves had agreed to part with their land, Mr. Manpade said that he (Mr. Reddy) seemed to have forgotten that he holds a responsible position in the Government. “It is better for Mr. Reddy to stop speaking against farmers and to mend his ways as such an attitude would not take him far. There are several instances as to the kind of political end several people saw after antagonising farmers and talking ill of them,” he said. Mr. Manpade said that the Government could make use of dry/barren land for building airports instead of acquiring fertile and irrigated lands. “If at all the Government was keen on acquiring fertile land for non-productive activities, it should pay at least Rs. 1 crore an acre of land, or it should ownership rights to farmers if their land was acquired for productive activities,” he said.“We will not allow forcible acquisition of fertile land for the airport. At the same time we hope that the Government would ensure that the future of the farmers is not jeopardised,” he said.Mr. Manpade, while accusing Superintendent of Police Seemant Kumar Singh of acting like an “agent of the BJP, particularly that of the Reddy brothers,” urged the Government to suspend him.

LAL SALAM COMRADE MANOHAR.

Name:- Manohar alias Balaswamy alias Prakash
Age:- 29 yrs
Place:- Soraba, shivamogga.
Father:- Basavarajugouda
Mother:- Shashirekha.
Manohar from a middle class family finished his P.U.C from Sagara . Joined Sahyadri college of shivamogga for BSc course. Probably his first struggle was against the poor quality food that was being given in hostel. During the same time he got contacts with PVK[ pragathipara vidhyarthi kendra] which influenced his life in a more meaningful manner.
Though he was a science student he studied in depth about the revolutions in world and about revolutionaries like bhagat, marx, engels, che, lenin and mao which helped him to see the social problems with a different perspective. Under the leadership of Karnataka Vimocahana Ranga he actively involved in the protest against Real Estate Ashok kheny's BMIC . Later he participated against expansion of Kudremukh Mining Project.
The outside world came to know that Manohar was a naxal only when he was arrested on May 1,2001 in Raichur along with Ramesh. Manohar along with Ramesh led a prominent role in establishing the naxal movement in Raichur. There were several cases from the state against Ramesh and Manohar in Yapaladinni and Raichur City police station but they were dismissed in due course. When Naxal comrade Bhaskar was killed in an encounter in Koravinal of Raichur the duo fled to Andhra and went underground. They were arrested in 2001 in Gadhwal of A.P. For 1 year he was detained in Charapalli jail of A.P. jail didnot hinder his progressive thinkings. He fought for the rights of inmates. In an article to a kannada magazine he predicted that if the capitalistic attitude of America continues in the same way thn recession was inevitable.
Due to lack of evidence he was released in 2005, later he joined a kannada daily 'eccharike' as reporter. Police spy didnot allow him to carry democratic revolution. They used to call him to station frequently. Police's mental torture made him rethink of his democratic way of revolution and he entered the ghats and rejoined the armed revolution.
Manohar became a martyr when he was killed in an encounter in Mavinahole near Kalasa, Chikmagalur district, Karnataka on November 18,2008.
His dream of a classless society?? I think it's our duty to make his dream come true.

Indian Maoist influence is spreading - experts

NEW DELHI, Feb 10th 2009 - Well-armed Maoists are rapidly expanding their insurgency in India, catching the government off-guard with their appeal to the poor and destitute, officials and experts say.

The rebels have 22,000 combatants, and have spread to more than 180 of the country's 630 districts from just 56 in 2001, according to the government and a new report this week by the Institute for Conflict Management (IFCM), a New Delhi 'think-tank' .

"The security threats are changing and it's bigger than ever before as more and more areas are coming under their command. It is not a happy sight at all," B.K. Ponwar, head of the Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College in India, told Reuters.

"We must address the barrel of the gun of the Maoists, or in two years the issue will get out of hand."

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the Maoist rise as one of the gravest threats to India's internal security, and the insurgency is shaping up as an issue ahead of a general election due by May.

The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party says the ruling Congress party does not have a strategy to counter the Maoists and that police are poorly armed.

WELL-EQUIPPED REBELS

Police and intelligence officials say the Maoists are now recruiting hundreds of poor villagers to bolster their ranks, and are equipped with automatic weapons, shoulder rocket launchers, mines and explosives.

The rebels say they are fighting for the rights of the farmers and the poor who make up the majority of India's 1.1 billion population.

They regularly attack rail lines and factories, aiming to cripple economic activity over a large area.

India's police intelligence department says the Maoists are making their presence felt in 22 of the country's 29 states. Thousands of people have been killed since the uprising began in the late 1960s.

In the last week, rebels have launched attacks in areas previously unaffected by fighting. In the western state of Maharashtra, rebels shot dead 15 police, while in Bihar's Nawada district they killed 10 police.

More than 1,000 cases of Maoist attacks were recorded last year in which more than 200 police personnel killed.

"The rebels now have the capability to launch simultaneous attacks and they have the firepower. But the Indian government does not seem to have the capacity to neutralise them," Ajai Sahni of the Institute for Conflict Management said.

Police efforts are hampered by lack of manpower and weapons as well as poor coordination between states, meaning rebels can escape pursuit by crossing state lines.

FEMALE MAOIST LURED POLICE INTO TRAP

MAHARASTRA:A woman named Narmada led the deadly Maoist attack that killed 15 policemen in Maharashtra' s Gadchiroli district on Sunday. Her deputy was also a woman named Taraka alias Vimlaa. Narmada, a 44-year-old college dropout from Andhra Pradesh, has been leading the Maoists' Gadchiroli unit since shortly after the death of its last leader, Shivanna, who was killed in a police encounter in Chhattisgarh last year.

The sources said the attack in the jungles of Markegaon village about 300 km southeast of Nagpur was a joint operation of the North Bastar and Gadchiroli units of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Narmada, a 44-year-old college dropout from Andhra Pradesh, has been leading the Maoists' Gadchiroli unit since shortly after the death of its last leader, Shivanna, who was killed in a police encounter in Chhattisgarh last year. She is married to Maoist leader Sudhakar alias Kiran who works for the outfit's publicity wing, say sources.

Her deputy Taraka, a tribal girl from Gadchiroli, is also the wife of a senior Maoist leader, Bhupathi. He is a member of the group's central committee.Since she took charge, Narmada has entrusted key posts to women. Most of her local organisational squads, which consist of 10-15 armed Maoists, are headed by women.

The Maharashtra Police have launched a massive search to find the group. More than 2,000 heavily-armed police personnel have been deployed for combing operations in the area, which is 80 km by road from the district headquarter, Gadchiroli town. Seventy policemen have been killed by Maoists in Gadchiroli and Gondia districts of Vidharba since 2002, according to the Anti Naxal Operations unit of Maharashtra Police. Naxalites of the People's War Group, and later, the CPI(Maoist) have been active in this area since 1980.Maharashtra Police chief AN Roy denied media reports that the bodies of the policemen who died in the attack had been mutilated. "This is absolutely false," he said.Agencies investigating the attack say the Maoists used a police informer to draw the policemen to their deaths.

The attackers knew of the movements of the policemen, who were on their way to investigate the burning of a tractor and a road-roller by Maoists.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After taking power in Karnataka sangh parivar’s BJP government is vigorously indulging in anti people policies and acts. Taken peasants lives with oath, given free hands to bajarangadal like hooligans to act as their wish, organized attacks on Christian minorities and church, planned to turn student community and education according to the hindu fascist agenda in the guise of campaign against terrorism , correction of syllabus and text books. Involved all teachers and lecturers forcefully (directly and indirectly) without any say in it. In the name of government programme; R.S.S, A.B.V.P, vishva hindu parishad like hindu fascist organizations were real mentors of these programmes. In all these programmes main speakers are from these organizations. Blocked all scope for open discussions and other democratic expressions.

Mortgaging and selling our natural and human resources to the imperialist bosses is rampant. Privatization and capitalistion roads, hospitals, infrastructures, services, temples etc are going on in speedy manner. Corruption is order of the minute.Chief minister’s office is the head office of the corruption. Chief minister’s son, family and rural development minister shobha karandlaje is incharge of that office.

Nose and mouth blocking exercises like arresting continuously, foisting false cases and handcuffing of the editor of karavali ale and blocking it’s sales through vandalism. Set free to bajarangadal like fascist gangs to do it. Police department is providing protection to it. Home minister and the government directly involved in this.

Muthalik’s sreerama sene openly declared to attack on muslim and Christian minorities and wiping them out in the name ethnic cleaning and formation of hindu rastra. It formed an armed army publicly, to implement this. It announced it’s reactionary anti people agenda through leaflets in davanagere .Govt allowed it to announce the armed fascist army without any concern about the much talked rule of law.

Targeted Shantha Rama somayagi like democrats with cunning manner. College authorities and university authorities acting upon dakshina kannada district in charge minister Krishna palemar. BJP government is treating universities and its teaching community as their servants.

Attacks of hindu fascist gangs on minorities, women, daliths were increased in B.J.P rule.

We are strongly condemning all these fascist designs and acts of the government and sangh parivar’s organizations.

We are warning seriously to leaders of R.S.S, B.J.P, bajarangadala, vishva hindu parishad, sreeramasene that if they not stopped these, they should have to pay big price for all these anti people, anti democratic and anti national acts. They are the sole responsibility for that.

We are appealing teaching communities of universities, colleges ,all democratic forces ,pro people forces, minority communities to unite and uphold freedom of expression and democratic values. Expose sangha parivar and it’s organization’s anti people, fascist designs and acts among the student community and the masses through leaflets, protests, speeches, seminars, articles, skits, dramas, arts, songs, campaigns etc in rapid way. Creating awareness among the students and masses is very important and fundamental thing to fight feudal reactionary fascist thoughts and acts.
Gross root level awareness creation is very important task before all of us. We are all have to take that responsibility. Otherwise fascist reactionary forces uses that situation and gain upper hand with ruling class’s direct support.
With revolutionary greetings,
Your,s in struggle

Maoist rebels kill 15 police in India

Fifteen police officers were killed in the western
Indian state of Maharashtra
in a shoot-out with Maoist Revolutionaries on Monday, 2nd February 2009.

They were ambushed Sunday in the jungle near a village in the east of the state, a stronghold of Maoists and other Marxist groups who represent oppressed, landless rural dwellers.

"The patrolling party was ambushed by the Maoists and 15 reactionaries died. The encounter went on for nearly one and a half to two hours," stated the regions Masses reports.

They say there were regular skirmishes between police and Maoists in
the area, which is close to the border with neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and some 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) by road from the Maharahstra state capital Mumbai.

Indian media on Monday said the Maoists fled with police weapons,
including automatic assault rifles and a mortar shell.
