In a major breakthrough, a top Maoist leader responsible for operations in West Bengal and neighbouring Orissa and Jharkhand was arrested by the CID alongwith another cadre on Saturday. The CID, acting on a tip-off, arrested the 55-year old leader, known only by his first name Somen, from Hridaypur railway station in North 24 Parganas district, Rajeev Kumar, IG (Special Operations), CID said.Somen, alias Bidhan, has been the West Bengal general secretary of the CPI (Maoist) for the last three years.A resident of Khardah in North 24 Parganas district, Somen's orginal name is Himadri Sen Roy, and is married, with a son studying in Class IX, sources said.Starting his political life in the CPI(M), Somen joined the erstwhile People's War Group some years back and now in the CPI(Maoist) as it is known after the merger of PWG and other naxalite outfits, they said.After the arrest, the two cadres were taken to Badu and Madhyamgram, in the district for inquiry, and finally to Bhavani Bhavan, the CID headquarters in Kolkata.
